       Development

       of

       Sharpe's Pottery Buildings

The Sharpe's Visitor and Resource Centre accommodation is focused around a bottle kiln - one of only nine remaining in the area. A sensitive conversion has taken place to ensure efficient use of the space, with access for all, whilst retaining its industrial character.

The community of South Derbyshire and the surrounding area are able to access archives, photographs and educational materials. The Centre enables people to discover more about the historic, cultural and artistic environment of the area in a setting of past industrial importance.

The accommodation includes:

an attractive central courtyard
facilities for people with disabilities
a refreshment area
a reception area
exhibition and display areas
a lecture theatre/classroom
archive and reference facilities
conference facilities and meeting rooms
an office

The Centre will be used for the following purposes:

as a base for hosting lectures and holding conferences
for travelling exhibitions
to display the work of local groups and schools
to provide reference material
to act as a base for outreach work and activities

Sharpe's Visitor and Resource Centre will offer an educational resource for present and future generations.
